“What started out as pen pal’s w/ gothic musician & all around arcane composer, Adrian Hates comes the rising stars Dirorama who’ve been sweeping the dark European music scene w/ their infectious & clever music. The following interview w/ founder & vocalist, Torbin was conducted by Marcos M. on 8-´03.”

1) How is everyone doing?

Twn: “Alright, just the usual stress factors. Bernard's car is broken but w/ his torn ligament, he shouldn't really be driving anyway.”

2) Have you been playing a lot of shows this past year?

Twn: “Four but there will be at least two more; one in Greece & one in Spain.”

3) Is Diorama solely your project or do the other guys in the band give input as well?

Twn: “We're acting as a band & everyone comes up w/ his own ideas.”

4) Have you gotten good feedback from North America?

Twn: “Yes, which is especially enjoyable as we still don't have a North American record deal (We’re working on it, though I hope people will soon have the chance to get national editions instead of expensive imports at their record stores, or instead of having to download the stuff, unless they want imports and downloads.). Our shows in Mexico City and Toronto this year were quite different from each other. The feedback from Mexico was amazing; Toronto was for various reasons nothing you could expect a lot of jubilation for.”

5) Any ideas of hitting The States for a string of shows?

Twn: “We'd love to! A good time would be after the next album’s released, hence around early autumn 2004, plus “Welt Promotion (www.pluswelt.de)” will take care of all booking inquiries from reasonable people.”

6) How did you come into contact w/ Adrian Hates of Diary of Dreams & your signing w/ Accession Records?

Twn: “At first Adrian & me were pen pals, & when my ambitions for recording a debut album became more and more tangible, we decided to cooperate.”

7) What were some musical influences that got you into making music yourself?

Twn: “Classical music (mostly Chopin), 80s synth pop, heavy metal, electronic beats, etc.”

8) What are some of the groups whose music you enjoy listening to these days?

Twn: “The Gathering, Sìgur Ros, Chicks on Speed, Faithless, Radiohead, Schneider Tm, Klangstabil, Mesh, & others.”

9) Are you into any American acts?

Twn: “Yes, among others I like the wonderful U.S. signings from Accession Records like Claire Voyant & Angels of Venice.”

10) When can fans expect a new album?

Twn: “Mid 2004.”

11) Can you briefly describe what one can expect at one of your shows?

Twn: “You have to come & see for yourself.”

12) Have you gained any exposure over in Europe outside of the dark music scene?

Twn: “Nothing mentionable.”

13) What else influences your music? Are there any certain beliefs, topics, or creeds you feel strongly about?

Twn: “Unfairness, people, feelings, fantasy, desire, insanity, & solitude.”

14) Thanks for taking time out to answer some of my questions. Anything else you’d like to say?

Twn: “Good luck!”
