The first thing that jumped in our faces when arriving at the venue in Reutlingen, was the signs: Concert Sold Out! on the doors and the fans outside asking for extra tickets with very dissapointed looks on their faces. The venue where the concerts took place was big enough for 700 people, but I guess that the popularity of the local band Diorama was slightly underestimated. Anne Clark could have probably filled this beautiful cinemafeel like venue by herself easily, but the feel of the evening was that Diorama was more or less the unexpected headliner.
The venue was already filled completely when the intro started to play and the Dioramafans started to cheer their made heroes onto the stage. When the guys entered the stage, the screaming started and the beats of "Kein Mord" swept them into a tide
of atmosphere that only Diorama can do on stage. Mastermind Torben Wendt and guitar player Sasha Fiddler were again the two jokers on the front of the stage, that whipped up the audience and made the play between the band and it´s audience to a one of a kind. Marquess on drums and Felix Marc, (who is trying to shift his time in between "Diorama", "Frozen Plasma" and his own solo project Felix Marc) on synths finish the setting in the background, being stuck in their "Cubes" but still very alive and involved in the atmosphere.
The songs flowed naturally, even with a few minor technical difficulties or slip ups in the lyrics here and there. It didn´t seem to bother the audience one bit.
The atmosphere was very energetic, but intimate at the same time, which is kind of an amazing thing in a venue as big as Franz.K
The band treated their fans with pieces from their last studio album "A Different Life" such as "Exit the Grey", "Erase Me", "Why" and "Synthesize Me" as well as some older songs like the popular club track "Advance" to the more easy going "E-minor" and "Belle". They even excited the audience by playing three tracks from their soon to be expected album "Cubed", which sounded very promising and makes us long for the release date very eagerly.
It was all over way sooner then we all hoped it would be and the dissapointment grew bigger when the boys were not allowed to play ANY extra songs. Needless to say this wasn´t their choice at all, it was hard enough for them to go off the stage after such a great gig in their hometown.
We are all looking forward to D-Day IV, but hopefully with Diorama as the headliner, they sure as hell deserve it!
