Diorama Is playing without bass player Bernard Le Sigue, but Felix Mark (keyboards, vocals) and guitar player Sash Fiddler fill the gap skilfully. The voice of Torben Wendt is the key factor in the music of Diorama, but the band is also brilliantly in singing the chorus lines together. Diorama has clearly adjusted their set for the fact that they are opening for VNV Nation. They mostly play up tempo songs, but thankfully create one peaceful moment in the middle of the set. It seems over too soon, so that is a good sign. Especially new songs like ‘Logic Friends’ (a typical Diorama song) and the heavier ‘The Girls’ sound special. That older songs like ‘Said But True’, ‘Last Minute’, ‘Kiss Of Knowledge’ and ‘Her Liquid Arms’ are present in the set is logical. The only minor part was the terrible bass sound during the first two song, but thankfully enough that was gone after that.
VNV Nation The live hit disco of VNV Nation. The band has perfected their live performance with two giant video screens and an impressive lightshow (although the light are annoying sometimes, because they shine in the faces of the audience most of the time). It is therefore a tiring experience, because all those impulses have to be registered. Ronan does his ‘love him or hate him’ show once again. Jokes like ‘this song is a synth pop song’ and than play one of their heavier songs with ‘Entropy’ (which has a quiet beginning), ‘they look like puppy’s see their faces – please play one more, please’ and when people expect a encore to come back and say that he only forgot his towel (sorry) – only a pity that Mark repeats this joke. It’s a only a shame that all this talk are disturbing the pace of the gig. They also have a slower and quiet middle part, with songs like ‘Arena’, in the set and it makes it difficult to get back in the mood after that. It shows that the songs of VNV are sounding much alike, but it is also clear that VNV Nation is world famous by danceable, very accessible, music. It explains why there are people in metal shirts, people who obviously like pop music and people in black. It explains also the dancing crowd from the stage to behind the sound table. ‘It’s about making music that you like’ says Ronan and the dancing people in front of him proved he’s right. VNV Nation is the ultimate hit machine. That the band ends with a slightly changed version of ‘Electronaut’ says it all. VNV Nation is doing what you can expect, but only a little bit different than before.
After the show the audience is dancing deep into the night on other electro heroes. It proves the great atmosphere of tonight.
