DIORAMA - amaroid

It took a while, but Diorama is finally finished with the follow-up for "The Art Of Creating Confusing Spirits". The result is entitled "Amaroid" and takes the listener through the result of three years work, spread over five studios, made hearable in 13 tracks.
The result is simply outstanding: "Amaroid" is a strong album, with some pearls among stars. As with the previous album ("Klarheit", "Howland Road"), it's clear that Diorama understands the art of writing an album full of sensitive songs, that are yet strong and powerful. It's presented with a fragile feeling, yet it feels well-thought, mostly due Torben Wendt's strong vocal capabilities. The rather aggressive "Two Girls" (sic), the dynamic "Logic Friends" and the simply hauntingly beautiful "Friends We Used To Know" are prime examples of fine songwriting, combined with the skill to write decent lyrics that actually have a story to tell. With 70 minutes of music, it is a long message but I doubt that should be a problem.

There has been put a lot of time in recording "Amaroid" and one can hear that upon first ear. A good example is "Unzerstört": the only German song of the album, that was written in only one night. The contrast which is made with follow-up "Champagne For All" which is the other side of the spectrum: a song built up with passion and new discoveries will be made every time you spin this song.

"Amaroid" is closed down with the perfect summary for the album; "I Hear The Drums" sounds great in contrast with follow-up "Two Boats". These two song summarize the album and prove that Diorama has managed to find the perfect way to write an album that can be spine-shivering, cold and calm on one side, yet warm, touching and well-thought on the other. That is a skill that is seen not often enough, and makes Diorama an act to deal with now, but also in a few years from now.
